NISA Fundraising Event 2008

The North American Islamic Shelter for the Abused (NISA), established in 2002, held its annual fundraising dinner on June 7, 2008 at the Santa Clara Marriott. Featured guests speakers included Rolanda Pierre-Dixon, the Deputy District Attorney for Santa Clara County, Sheikh Alauddin Albakri, respected and Influential Muslim Scholar, and Saba Ghori, Board Member of D/V Resource Project of Maryland. The event brought together Muslim and Non-Muslim supporters from the Bay Area community to raise funds to help establish the Bay Area's first Islamic battered women's shelter and to support NISA initiatives in the Bay Area.

The key note address was delivered by Sheikh Alauddin Albakri. Sheikh Alauddin Albakri addressed NISA supporters on the Islamic principles of family unity and family harmony. Additionally, Rolanda Pierre-Dixon, the Deputy District Attorney for Santa Clara County attended the event and thanked NISA for their role in addressing domestic violence and reiterated her office's commitment to prosecuting domestic violence crimes and thanked community efforts for addressing this issue.

The NISA fundraiser was a success in raising money toward achieving NISA's goals and developing community support for families in the bay area. Due to the generosity of the community at large NISA looks forward to continuing to provide services to families in need. NISA would like to thank all of those who helped support these efforts and we look forward to your continued participation.
