ABOUT NISA
The North American Islamic Shelter for Abused (NISA), an affiliate of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), was established in 2002 as a vehicle towards alleviating issues related to abuse and domestic violence.
MISSION
To promote domestic harmony and a happy family life in the SF Bay Area ; to restore an Islamic family system that brings the rights of the husband, wife, and children, and relatives into a fine equilibrium. To become partners against Domestic Violence; to spread the word and stop the hurt!
OBJECTIVES
Rooted in Islamic values, NISA strives to create a more just community in which people of all cultures and beliefs can participate. Our primary goal is to reduce the incidents of domestic violence and achieve domestic harmony among families through collaborative efforts with the community and other established organizations.
NISA provides services to all who seek assistance regardless of race, religion or gender.
HISTORY
The statistics show that domestic violence is on rise among the Muslim communities in North America. There is a dire need for the establishment of social welfare organizations, who can help and understand the plight of Muslims trapped in DV situations.
NISA was created, in October 2002, to play a positive role in elimination of this social condition within Muslim families.
